The Romantik Hotel Jagdhaus Eiden looks out across the Zwischenahner Meer, the large lake that gives the spa town of Bad Zwischenahn its character between Oldenburg and the North Sea coast. The Eiden district, with its timber-framed farmhouses and reed-lined shore, is a few minutes' walk from the house; the spa gardens and the open-air museum Ammerländer Buurnhus are close by.
The property is part of German hotel history: it counts among the founding houses of the Romantik Hotels & Restaurants cooperative, run by the same family for generations. Around sixty rooms and suites are distributed across three buildings — the main house and the Am Eichenhain wing with their classic interiors, and the younger, fresher Dünenhaus a few steps away.
There is one more fact that makes this address special for our guide: the Spielbank Bad Zwischenahn has operated inside the hotel building since 1976 — tables on the ground floor, a slot floor above. Guests who play can simply take the stairs home; guests who don't play barely notice the casino exists.

In the Dünenhaus, the modern annexe: fresh contemporary interiors a step back from the shoreline, with Wi-Fi, minibar and the calm that the Ammerland countryside does best.
Covered balconies and wide windows facing the water define the classic main house categories. Some rooms add an infrared cabin or a fireplace lounge corner.
The most generous option: separate living area, canopy bed and — in some suites — a fireplace, for slow mornings and long evenings after the casino floor.
Since 1976 the state casino has operated inside the hotel — an unusually intimate setting for live tables in Lower Saxony.
French-style table roulette is played in the elegant casino salon on the ground floor. The wheel follows the unhurried rhythm that a small, classic Spielbank does better than a big city hall — croupiers who know their regulars, and time to play properly.
Blackjack tables sit beside the roulette in the lower gaming room. It is the easiest table game for casino newcomers to learn, and the low-key local audience makes it a forgiving place to try your first basic strategy.
The casino operates poker tables in the same ground-floor salon. Ask at the hotel desk for the current cash-game and tournament schedule, which varies by season and player demand.
The upper floor of the casino is dedicated to play without ceremony: around 180 slot machines and gaming devices in every denomination, served by hotel staff — drinks and snacks come straight from the house service.
Guide notes: entry to the Spielbank is from 18 years with a valid photo ID; visitors register personally at the casino entrance, as standard practice at German state casinos. Smart-casual attire fits the atmosphere of the house.
For most guests a visit to the Spielbank is one evening among many — dinner on the lake terrace, a few rounds at the table, a walk home along the shore. Gambling works exactly like that, as entertainment with a fixed budget, never as a source of income. The breakfast room and informal meeting point on the shore, which the hotel's guests have repeatedly ranked among Germany's best breakfasts. In summer, drinks are served on the terrace — a floating platform — right over the lake.
Also in the house: Fischstube Eiden for North German fish dishes, the rustic Dünenklause pub, and harp music drifting through the main restaurant on winter weekends.
